On the western side of the road at the entrance of the Monastery Valley stands the rock-cut Chapel of Saint Stephen, recognizable by its small entrance door. The most striking feature of this modest structure is its rock-cut ambo, which retains its original character. The eagle-shaped relief carved on the ambo gives the chapel particular significance. The painted decoration on the dome bears the date 1907.
