Kebir Mosque

According to the Niğde Sanjak Central Town Asarı Atika Defteri record, the inscription of the mosque, which is stated to have been built by a person named El-Hac İbrahim, states that the construction date is 1601, but the exact construction date is unknown.

The mosque, which is open for worship today, is located in a central location in the village. The mosque, built using the masonry technique, has a hipped roof and a rectangular plan. The mosque has a two-nave harim with a pointed barrel vault; It consists of two parts, a barrel-vaulted winter space to the east of the harim. There are two independent gallery floors in the north of the harim. There is a marble mihrab and a stone pulpit in the harim.

Today the mosque has two minarets; one of them is the “kiosk minaret”, which is thought to be original; The other is the modern minaret built in 1976. The pavilion minaret is located in the south-east corner of the mosque’s sanctuary. The minaret is reached from the outside via a steep staircase. The minaret has a circular upper cover with pointed arches resting on four columns. Above it is a hexagonal cubic cone with a crescent moon standing sideways on its tip. These types of minarets are also called “pulpit minarets” due to their resemblance to a pulpit. These can be found in many mosques and masjids built in the 19th century in the Cappadocia region, especially in Kayseri, Nevşehir and Kırşehir.
