Cappadocia University Cansever Mansion

Although the exact construction date of the building is unknown, it is understood that it was built before 1884, according to the inscription on the wall painting in the mansion room. The previous owner of the mansion during the exchange is known as Hacı Faslaha Vasilis, who was a money changer. The mansion took its name from the Cansever family, one of the local families of the village, who settled here some time after the population exchange. The building, which was expropriated by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism as an example of Civil Architecture, currently serves as the educational building of Cappadocia University. The mansion is a two-storey building with a polygonal plan and a central courtyard.

There are two entrance doors on the west and southeast facades of the mansion. From the arched two-winged main entrance door, you can access the open courtyard and from there to the garden. On the upper floor, which can be reached by stairs, there is a central sofa and rooms around it. The walls of the building, made with the masonry technique, are made of stone; Wooden materials were originally used for doors, ceilings and windows. It is understood that the ironwork of the cantilevered balconies and windows on the facade of the house was made by hand using the cast iron technique, and these elements add dynamism and color to the facade. In addition, the consoles on the facade, which support the projection and are decorated with various motifs such as rosette-shaped passionflowers, stylized flowers and crosses, make the building ostentatious.

In the place known as the mansion room in the mansion, there is a mural with a mythological theme. At the top of the picture is the phrase “Slander According to Apelles of Ephesus” in Greek. Apelles was a famous painter of the Ancient Greek period, and in the depicted scene, the subject of slander that he is said to have experienced is depicted. In the lower right corner of the picture, it is written that the depiction was made by the painter Georgios Iordanidis in 1884. The presence of the scene here, which is also known and depicted by Western painters, is explained by some researchers as being related to the rich library that once existed in Mustafapaşa.
