Zekir Yaman Mansion

According to the inscription dated 1903 on the wall painting in the main room of the upper floor, it is known that the mansion, which was apparently built before this date, was built by Hacı Makro Abastol/Apostolis. After the population exchange, the owner of the mansion became the Yamanlar family, who migrated to the village from Thessaloniki. Since a part of the mansion was used as a home by Zekir Yaman and his family, it is called by this name by the villagers, and today it serves as an accommodation and guesthouse. The building, which has two floors and a sloping roof, has a rectangular plan.

The wooden winged entrance door with an arch is located on the western façade of the building. There is a round lighting window and a niche opening on the door arch. An open courtyard is entered through the entrance gate and the upper floor is reached with the stairs on the right side of the courtyard. Stone material was used in the walls of the building, which were made with masonry technique, while wooden material was originally used in the door, ceiling and window elements.

In the exterior decoration of the mansion, bird figures and star motifs attract attention, unlike the decorations of other building facades. A wall painting can be seen in a niche in the main room of the upper floor. In the center of the composition, a female figure is depicted with a bucket in her left hand and a basket of flowers on her head. There is the phrase “Georgi Pitore” in the lower left corner of the picture. The word “pitore” here must refer to the Italian word meaning painter (pittore). Georgi must be Georgios Iordanidis, one of the well-known painters of the village. The painting also has a note dated 1903, which is the date the painting was made.
